PFR Cotton/Basofil® Blend Batt
This liner is extremely economical and has been well received in the
field in spite of its relatively heavy 10.75 oz total weight. Perhaps this is because
of cotton’s high comfort characteristics. This liner has also proved reasonably
durable in less busy departments, but as with all cotton products, care must be
given to drying before storage. Even with the extra weight, cotton facecloths generally
do not tend to last as long as Aramid facecloths.
FR Cotton/Spunlace Protective Comfort Liner®
FR Cotton/Spunlace Protective Comfort Liner® – This liner, unique to Morning Pride,
is extremely thin and comfortable despite its weight. Depending on the shell and
moisture barrier, it offers before wash TPPs in the 37 to 40 range and gains about
10 points after 5 wash TPP testing. It also offers the comfort and wicking of a
cotton and spunlace thermal layer. As with all thin liners, we highly recommend
the extra insulation or Regular or Extended Dead Air Panels. It offers its best
insulation when matched to a Basofil® outer shell. This liner has also proved reasonably
durable in less busy departments, but as with all cotton products, care must be
given to drying before storage. Even with the extra weight, cotton facecloths generally
do not tend to last as long as Aramd facecloths.
Meta Aramid/Spunlace
Omni® liners from Amatex Norfab. Meta aramid is the type of material that Nomex®
is. However, Nomex® is a trademarked id of Du Pont. A Meta Aramid is a material
NOT produced by Du Pont and might be used in these facecloths. This group of liners
are very thin and comfortable. The single layer spunlace is so low in insulation,
it may not be advisable with most shells.
Nomex®/Batt Heavy
Isolator® from Springs; Q9® from Southern Mills; XLT® from Difco. This is the heaviest
of all the liners, and as such, it offers the most insulation and the least breathability.
It is also one of the most economical liner choices. Sweating guarded hot plate
testing was ongoing as this catalog went to print; it is possible this heavy liner
may not meet minimum breathability requirements with some of the less breathable
moisture barriers. If there is a problem with your order in this regard, our Customer
Service Department will be in contact.
Nomex®/Batt Light
Aralite® from Southern Mills; Chambray® from SCT; Isolater Plus® from Springs; Xtra-
Lite® from Difco. This lighter batt lining material is intended to provide a compromise
between the relatively high bulk and insulation of Batt Heavy liner products and
the relatively low bulk and insulation of the newer materials, such as Spunlace
products. The batt in this liner is Kevlar®. Chambray Thermal Liners (xxFx in our
model numbering system) often appeal to customers that currently utilize Nomex®/Batt
Light (Aralite®) thermal liners, our xx0x model number. Both liners are priced the
same, but many customers feel the Chambray® facecloth is more comfortable than the
Nomex® facecloth in the xx0x system. Further, the virgin batt in the Chambray® system
is often felt to be more stable during field use (even dimensionality and hence
tendency toward consistent insulation levels throughout the liner). The Chambray®
liner features a 3.2 oz Iced Blue Nomex® facecloth, quilt stitched to a 4.0 oz,
100% virgin batt of Nomex® and Kevlar® batt for a total of 7.2 oz.
Nomex® E89
This liner system is available in a number of lay ups and has proven to be one of
our most popular systems. Nomex® E89 appears to be the liner of choice for metro
departments. It is light, wicks up sweat well and dries quickly. It is low bulk,
so movement is facilitated. While this is not one of the very lightest liners, customers
may wish to consider dead air paneling systems to beef up its insulative capabilities.
Nomex® Semi-slick
These Caldura® (xx1x, xx4x, xx6x, xxCx and xxYx) and Glide II® (xxGx and xxMx) liners
attempt to balance a blend of slick or filament yarns with woven yarns. The goal
is to preserve the easy movement of the slicker materials while avoiding their problem
of minimized moisture pickup (which can lead to a clammy, stressful liner feel against
the body once sweating begins). Glide II® Thermal Liners (xxGx in our model numbering
system) often appeal to customers that currently utilize Nomex® Semi-slick/Batt
Light (Caldura®/Aralite®) thermal liners, our xx1x model number. Both liners are
priced the same, but many customers feel the Glide II® facecloth is more comfortable
than the Nomex® Semi-slick facecloth in the xx1x system. Further, the virgin batt
in the Glide II® (as compared to 70% garnetted batt in the xx1x) system is often
felt to be more stable during field use (even dimensionality and hence tendency
toward consistent insulation levels throughout the liner). Safety Components Technology
also points out strong lubricity, weight, drying time and comfort index advantages for Glide II® (over Caldura®/Aralite®).
Nomex® One Layer Liner
This liner is designed for absolute minimal bulk, which also translates into excellent
flexibility. The Thermal Heat Loss (THL or breathability) and Thermal Protective
Performance (TPP or insulation) are extremely high for this liner. Please consult
our price list for details on each available composite (especially for a system
that is so minimally bulky). The Nomex® One Layer Liner is also the only liner/secondary
outer shell that we are offering in our Structural TAC reversible garment design. |
